Bushcraft Course kit list

Back to kit & videos

When attending any of the weekend or week-long bushcraft courses we suggest you use this list to kit yourself out with the necessary equipment for the pursuit of bushcraft. We will also email you a kit list on booking!

  • Tent for the first night
  • Warm sleeping bag at least 3 season
  • Plastic bivi bag – search for one of these on Amazon or Ebay, deal change all the time.
  • Sleeping mat
  • Rucksack
  • Drybag – heavy duty bin liner will do
  • Spoon
  • Mug
  • Bowl
  • First aid kit containing as an absolute minimum- antiseptic wipes plasters dressings bandages. Any tablets you need to bring painkillers etc.
  • A plastic sheet 4feet by 4feet minimum… this can be used as a ground sheet or thrown over a natural shelter to give more protection. It’s also essential in helping to collect thatching materials for your shelter. This is not required for the 2 day course
  • Warm layered clothing including some cotton base layers (t –shirts) and woollen insulating layers.
  • Waterproof jacket and trousers – don't bring your most expensive ones as they are liable to damage around fires and thorny bushes!
  • Hat
  • Tough pair of gloves – old gardening gloves are good
  • Sturdy footwear.
  • Torch with spare batteries – a head-torch is even better as it will free up your hands for other tasks.
  • Hand soap and toothbrush kit, toilet roll etc.
  • Insect repellant - one containing deet if possible
  • A camping chair- again not essential kit as there are a few logs, or the ground to sit on! I’ve opted for the latter for many years. However, as time goes on camping chairs have made more of an appearance on our courses, to the point where having a hard log to sit on whilst everyone else relaxes back in camping chairs has forced me to take the plunge. I got mine for £19, and it’s very comfortable and makes the whole experience more relaxing! Shop around at Go-outdoors and other discount outdoor shops as prices vary and change frequently.
  • A mosquito net can come in handy as well, although I know these can be quite expensive hence I’d say it’s not essential as you can always use repellent, but a net makes everything more comfortable whilst you’re sleeping. Occasionally we do get sudden plagues of mozzies appear, especially as the season are tending to become wetter.
  • DON'T FORGET IF YOU'RE BOOKED ON TO SOME OF OUR COURSES YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE A COUPLE OF CHEAP EXTRA ITEMS. YOU WILL BE EMAILED A KIT LIST FOR THIS.

Bring 2L of water. There is a mains water source near the carpark for refills. Don't worry about having to carry it a long way – we can park fairly close to the woodland. So bring any luxuries you want so they are accessible from your car – remember this is an educational course; you are here to learn, not be tested (that comes later if you choose!) so staying comfortable will help you learn far more on the bushcraft courses!

Remember Bushcraft courses can be hardwearing on kit so don't bring anything that you want kept in perfect condition!

Please feel free to bring any other personal items you desire along to our bushcraft courses; of course this is at your own risk. Guitars seem to make a regular appearance, which is great, although we try to keep the peace and harmony of the camp so please respect others and the wildlife when playing music in the woodland and don't overdo it.
